Privacy policy

Pat on Sports is a personal sports column atpatonsports.comand companion mobile apps for iOS and Android. This page covers the website and the apps. It is written for readers and for App Store / Play Store review.

What we collect

By default, almost nothing.

• Website.The site is static HTML. Pages do not require an account. Vercel may log standard request metadata (IP address, user agent, path) for hosting and abuse prevention. Vercel Analytics records anonymised page views.
• Comments.If you leave a comment, the name (and optional email) you enter is stored with that comment so the thread can show who wrote what. Email, when provided, is used only for moderation contact and is not shown publicly. Comment data currently lives with CommentBox.io; when first-party comments ship, it will live in a database we operate.
• App push notifications.If you opt in, the app registers an Expo push token so we can send one notification when a new post is published. The token is a device identifier used only for that purpose. It is not linked to your name or email.

What we do not collect

• No accounts, sign-in, or paywalls.
• No advertising SDKs and no ad tracking.
• No third-party analytics SDK in the mobile apps (v1). The website uses Vercel Analytics only.
• No sale of personal data.

How we use it

Push tokens deliver new-post alerts you asked for. Comment fields display and moderate the thread. Hosting logs keep the site online and safe. Nothing else.

Retention and deletion

Push tokens are kept while notifications stay enabled and are removed when you opt out or when the push service reports the token as invalid. Comments remain with the post unless you ask for removal.

To request deletion of a comment, a push token, or any other personal data we hold, emailpat@patonsports.comfrom the address you used (if any) and say what you want removed. I aim to respond within 5 business days.

Children

The site and app are general-audience sports commentary. They are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

If this policy changes in a material way, the date at the top of this page will update and, for app users, a short notice may appear via the app manifest banner.
